GameCube Controller Adapter Coming to Wii U

In a surprise announcement, Nintendo has revealed an official GameCube controller adapter for the Wii U, news that will likely be well-received by the Super Smash Bros. community, where the GameCube controller is creed.

Based on the photos, the accessory will allow you to connect four GameCube controllers to your Wii U, requiring both USB ports on the front of the console.

The reveal was made in a video promoting the Super Smash Bros. Invitational happening at E3 2014. A price was not confirmed for the GameCube controller adapter, but we’ll keep you posted.

Right now, Super Smash Bros. is arguably the most exciting Wii U title we know about, and the unveiling of an adapter permitting the use of GameCube controllers is welcome news. Could this also be a sign that GameCube titles will be making their way to the Virtual Console sometime soon? Hmm…
