Pokémon Art Academy Looks Perfect for Aspiring Young Artists

I spent a lot of time playing “games” like Mario Paint on the SNES when I was a kid. In my opinion, it’s a great way to introduce your child to visual design without the intimidating learning curve or over-complicated computer software.

To me, Pokémon Art Academy seems like a modern-day Mario Paint. And that’s okay.

The game has you playing as an artist who dreams of creating the designs that appear on Pokémon trading cards. It starts off with basic lessons and more simple Pokémon, but eventually expands into shading, drawing different perspectives and angles, and adding depth to an image.

Pokémon Art Academy is coming to the Nintendo 3DS in October 2014. If you’ve got kids who love Pokémon and are interested in art, be sure to check out the E3 trailer below. While it may not be something you’re into, they might love it.

Pre-orders are available on Amazon.
